Van de President – July 2015

Beste leden, Dear Friends of the NZ.Netherlands Society “Oranje” Auckland Inc. This is my third year gone by as your President. Thank you for your loyal support for the Society over those years.

The AGM is upon us and we will have to make decisions together for the future of the Society. New Committee members have to be elected. Plans have to be made for future activities. We have to reflect on the mistakes we have made and make changes to prevent those happening again. The question remains how we can make better use of Holland House. We all need to put our thinking cap on for that question.

Our AGM follows our Coffee morning on the 5th of July 2015 in Holland House, 123 Rockfield Road, Penrose. Everyone is invited to attend that meeting, but only paid up members can vote on the motions presented at the meeting. Make sure you have paid your membership for 2015 and be present at the AGM. All the clubs and societies that are using Holland House will be asked to give a short report at the meeting.

The programme for the 5th of July coffee morning is as follows; Start at 11am with coffee and something with it. Until 12 noon followed by Lunch until 1pm when the AGM starts. The coffee or tea is $3.00 per person and lunch is $5.00 per person cash.

The AGM starts at 1pm followed by free afternoon-tea drinks and snacks. You can find the agenda here.

As I am writing this, no remits have been received to be presented at the AGM, nor have there been any nominations for Treasurer or Secretary as they are standing down as from this AGM. It is very important that the Society has a full working committee otherwise I am not able to continue as President because of my home situation.

Your Committee meets every second Tuesday of the month in Holland house from 7.30 to 930pm. Anyone willing to contribute their talents to the society is welcome to attend these meetings. We are on the lookout for people that can help organising events throughout the year. Please let us know what your talents are and when you are available to share them with us.

Don’t forget to look in the back of “Het Auckland Krantje” for the coming month events and meetings. Our monthly Dutch Market attracts new people all the time now which is very good. It is good to see whole families coming to the market as well. Attendance is improving every month this year. We could do with more permanent stallholders at the market to make it even more attractive. I am always impressed how the Dutch Dancers who are running the Café are coping with the extra influx of people. Since Margreet Kruit-Oerlemans and her husband Jan Kruit, produce the Oliebollen, I get a lot of comments on the good quality of texture and taste.  Other products such as the Kroketten and Bitterballen are always popular as well at the market.

Our Coffee morning in June had only 9 people present. I made a nice pot of vegetable soup with meatballs for the lunch and got the goodies for by the coffee and buns by the soup. Thanks to the ladies of the FSN, who normally come to our coffee mornings, for helping out in the kitchen. I would not be able to do that work on my own and look after my wife who hardly can move a step. I love to get someone to organise the coffee mornings if they should continue.

Ana Maria de Vos is running a Latin American Dance group on Wednesday evenings now in Holland House. She needs more members to be able to continue that dance group. Anyone interested in that kind of dancing please contact Ana Maria on 021-1568020.

My best wishes for those who have birthdays in the coming month and to those who celebrate their anniversaries. My condolences to those who have lost a loved one in the past month. To those who are not well and are suffering, I wish you all the comfort in the world and a speedy recovery.

I thank Jon Strong for putting this Krantje together in time and for organising the distribution of it.

See you all at the Coffee morning/AGM and or at the next market.

Kind regards to all,

Albert Ruijne
