Van de President – March 2015

posted in: President's Report | 0

Today my wife and I attended the annual BBQ, this year organised by the FSN committee. There were about 90 people enjoying this event. We had the honour of having the Auckland Consul Rene van Rijn and his wife Philippa also present. They blended in very well and met up with many of those present. We were entertained by Truus on the piano and there were regular sing-alongs enjoyed by all. Those responsible for the food preparation did an excellent job. I have not heard one complaint and there was more than enough for everyone. The deck could not be fully used as the oil was not completely soaked in. But Cor Geluk made sure that there were enough chairs on the deck around the tables for people to sit on. Hopefully the deck will be in full use by the next Coffee Morning on the 1st of March, if not, than by the next Market day on the 14th of March. I learned from Alice Henning that this was the last Annual BBQ she has organised. Alice you have done a superb job this year and the many years before, Congratulations. Who will be the next organiser?

Everyone is invited to our coffee morning every first Sunday of the month from 10.30am onwards followed by drinks and lunch. I am looking forward to meeting you on the 1st of March and again on the 5th of April.

Owen Poelijoe is organising an Easter Egg Hunt at Holland House on Saturday the 4th of April. This will be an event for the whole family. Book now for the event with Owen on 027-5036155 or email him at owen.poelijoe@gmail.com as soon as possible.

The February Market day was again a success with many new people attending the Market. Again it was one of the busiest Markets we have had. Keep this up. Bring a friend and your children or grand children to make the next market a success again. There will be new stalls added. Come and have a look at the new deck and make use of it, weather permitting.

The next Kingsday is on Monday the 27th of April. I am still looking for volunteers to help me with the organisation of this event. Please contact me on 09- 262 1337 or on 021-346 933 or email me at a.ruijne@xtra.co.nz . Keep this date free to attend this event.

Membership fees are due again. Those who pay their membership before the end of March will get a five dollar discount. Renew online here with the discount code ‘Renew’ (without quotes).

We are open for donations. We need to pay for the new deck, maintenance, water and land rates which the Council has increased substantially for this year, and so has the insurance for the building . Our income is not meeting the outgoings we have and therefore we have to work together to raise sufficient funds to keep the running of Holland House viable. Please consider giving a donation when you pay your membership this year.

The next thing we are working on is to be able to use the pool table again downstairs. We have started to clean out the basement. Anyone having some spare time to help clean the pool table area and get the pool-table in operation again please contact Albert Ruijne.

We welcome the new members that have signed up for this year. Please make yourselves known to me when you can.

Albert Ruijne
