In Auckland the time of the year has come to reflect on the past year and look ahead on the year to come. Next month we will have our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 5th July at 1pm in Holland House, 123 Rockfield Road, Penrose. Judging on the compliments and the criticism we have had in the past year, we should have a good number of people coming to the AGM. And so it should be. We all have a stake in the affairs of our club. We are owners of a great asset like Holland House and we want to be sure that it is managed to it’s fullest potential.
Those who are fully paid up members have the responsibility to be present at the AGM to vote on remits presented at this meeting. Or to present remits or recommendations, if you want to make a change to the way things are done at present, for members to vote on. Remits should be in the hands of the club Secretary not later than the 9th June as that will be the last Committee meeting before the AGM. At each AGM we need to elect a committee to manage the club for the coming year. The Secretary and the Treasurer have indicated to retire at the AGM, This means that the others on the committee are willing to serve for another year. Nominations for Office bearers are also due by the 9th June to the Secretary of the club. All positions on the committee can be challenged.
Our Financial Report will be presented at the AGM. It has been an hard year for our Treasurer to maintain the books due to illness. I thank Tony Strong for staying in there until the AGM. I like to thank his son Jon Strong for standing in for Tony when he was sick or travelling overseas. I like to thank Rachelle Pelkman of Trust Accountants Limited for the work she has done to make the accounts presentable for the AGM and organising our Auditor.
Since the last AGM, your committee has organised the monthly Coffee Mornings on the first Sunday of the month, the monthly Dutch Markets on the second Saturday of each month, Sinterklaas, with the help of Truus Tinsel, the Easter Egg Hunt with Owen Poelijoe, which was cancelled at the last minute due to lack of participants, Kings-day and Remembrance day. We shared in the Christmas Dinner at Waipuna Lodge and the BBQ organised by the FSN committee. The committee manages the Hall Hire and use of Holland House and its Maintenance. The biggest project was the building of the Deck at the back of Holland House this past year. We have heard mostly positive compliments about the Deck from the many people that make use of Holland House.
I would love to see a representative of each of the groups that use Holland House on our committee. It would enhance the possibility to organise things together in Holland House or elsewhere for all our members and their families. This past year for example, we have seen great cooperation between the Dutch Dancers and our Committee to organise activities in Holland House. It is good to work together to serve the Dutch community at large through the Dutch Market. The attendance at the Market has grown in the past year because of it.
I love to see a group of volunteers on the committee to be project coordinators who would be in charge of an activity. There is a good opportunity to open up the basement for playing pool/billiards and darts. So we can do other things if we have the people to do it. Please give it some serious thought to volunteer your skills for the Dutch Community.
Come and talk to us on our next coffee morning, which is on Sunday the 7th June from 10am to 1pm. Coffee will be served from 10am. The Bar will be open at 11am and lunch will be available from 12 noon. There will be games available to play.
Our next Dutch Market will be on the second Saturday of the month, on the 13th June. Come and enjoy the Dutch goodies with your family and friends and make new friends. It will be a good atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
Don’t forget to check on the activities of the FSN, Rederijkers, Klaverjassen, Dutch Dancers and EJOS, who are serving our Dutch Community.
